This course covers a breadth of topics regarding sound information management practices and standards. Participants from the community information sector would be able to play their role better as keepers of the information management standards in their local communities. Participants from the settlement sector, or any other sector for that matter, would gain basic understanding of the sound information management practices to determine the information needs in their community and in their organization. 

This module would  take up a maximum of three hours to review all the resources, complete worksheets, write up your reflections and fill in the surveys.

Module 1 - Learning Objectives

Trudy Beaulne

With more than 40 years of experience in developing and managing community-based projects, Trudy has extensive experience facilitating community groups and events and developing training workshops that cover a range of social development topics.

She is a founding director of InformCanada and is a Past President of InformOntario and Secretary for the Social Planning Network of Ontario. 

Peer-supported learning offered by the York Region and Waterloo Region pilot communities will allow participants in this course to gain insights in the process of creation of meaningful local information resources through collaboration. After reviewing the materials and conversations, if you are from the community information sector organization, you will have a greater understanding of the useful steps to consider in guiding a similar process yourself. If you are from the settlement sector organization, particularly being in a role of a community resource specialist or data base manager, you would broaden the knowledge of information management standards of practice and about the role your organization plays in the overall community information system.

This module would take maximum of three hours to review all the materials, complete worksheets, reflect on your experience and fill in the surveys. 
Activities - Module 2

Rosemary Park
Working as a full-time volunteer, civic leader and philanthropist to strengthen York Region across its social, civic, and environmental sectors, Rosemary serves on the Board of Directors of the York Region Community Information and Volunteer Centre and Inform Ontario.  Along with other leadership duties and community involvements over the past 20 years, she has helped launch Information Aurora, the Aurora Volunteer Centre, Aurora Community Fund, York Community Resources Group, and York Region Community Foundation.

Anne Anderson
A Project Management Professional (PMP) with more than 10 years experience, Anne has been instrumental in guiding and leading major client projects with multiple stakeholders and multi-million dollar budgets. Her primary expertise is in business process management, leading various projects and events to successful completion. Anne was educated in the United States and the majority of her experience has been managing IT and software-related project client engagements.

Without the cross sector collaboration, Ontario community information centres and settlement service providers cannot do their work successfully. Continuous feedback on the use of information resources is crucial for increasing the quality and usability of information available to newcomers.Through peer-supported learning, managers in settlement organizations (and other sectors) and information and referral providers would be exploring potential standards for sound cross-sector collaboration.

This module would  take up a maximum of four hours to review all the resources, complete worksheets, capture your reflections and fill in the surveys.
